JEDDAH: The German Consulate in Jeddah organized a classical music night as a cultural exchange between the people of the two countries.
The German musicians Reinhard Armleder on violoncello and pianist Dagmar Hartmann formed the Karlshruher Konzert-Duo and played works of composers such as Beethoven, Liszt and Bartholdy.
During a two-piece intermezzo, Saudi violinist Gehad Al-Khaldi joined them. Diplomats, Saudis, international dignitaries and media enjoyed the performance at the residence’s garden of German Consul General Rolf Theodor Schuster on Saturday.
“I am very proud of these artists for their excellent performance and for the endurance of the public. The artists really played well, especially in this humidity and heat,” said Schuster.
He further said the attendance of more than 400 people showed the interest in classical music.
“The main motive behind organizing the event was to emphasize the cultural relations between Germany and Saudi Arabia,” said Schuster. “We are trying to improve bilateral relations between the two countries. This will help to improve mutual understanding. In the field of student exchange we have already encountered the cooperation from the Saudi government. Saudi students have been to Germany last year and another group of students are coming from Germany to Saudi Arabia,” he explained.
He further said he was looking forward to having a concert with Saudi musicians performing Saudi music, to enhance cultural exchange and improve further relations.
