Friday 22 April 2005 (13 Rabi` al-Awwal 1426)

Congratulations Arab News!

I can’t imagine my morning coffee without Arab News, (I get extraordinarily grumpy if my driver forgets to pick it up.) I feel disconnected from the world if I don’t have my daily dose of today’s news, views and latest on world events. Even the funny little stories on the back page provide a source of conversation later in the day to entertain a friend or make my mother laugh.

Am I an information addict? Maybe, but I have to say that Arab News provides a source of social, political and economic information which helps me keep abreast of local and world events. To me this is invaluable in my work and personal life. I believe a good newspaper should evoke a mental and sometimes emotional response in the human psyche, inspiring us to think, to debate and to participate in the details that affect our daily lives.

A good newspaper should tackle important issues and broaden our horizons and offer a platform for debate to the public. In Arab News I have found an honest forum to discuss thought-provoking subjects. There is an area for everyone, Saudi and non-Saudi.

Arab News is a positive cultural tool to help boost the public moral and define the signs of our age. It has matured with the years into a credible and important journalistic pillar in Arab society, developing in parallel to the changing Arab culture. I look forward to Arab News being translated into Arabic. I think there is much the paper has to offer to our non-English-speaking citizens.

Good luck and God’s blessing for an ever-growing audience and bright future.
