Prince Sultan ibn Salman, the secretary-general of the Supreme Commission for Tourism, described Arab News as “the face of Saudi Arabia abroad” adding that it has always been there for the readers. Commenting on its 30th anniversary, Prince Sultan, who is also the first Arab Muslim astronaut, said: “Arab News is a paper I am keen on reading, especially when I am traveling, whether in its soft form (the website) or hard copy.” Prince Sultan also said Arab News has succeeded in reflecting the demands of the readers. “It has done this — and I say this with all honesty — with professionalism and transparency.” Prince Sultan also said that the paper was well known for its “deep criticism” which he says reflects “a healthy environment in the publishing field.” “Arab News has always been there: Reporting the events, the breakthroughs — which are many in our country — whether they are political, economic, or social topics,” he added. He believes Arab News has a larger mission to stand up to, which is to reflect Saudi Arabia’s image abroad. He also hoped to see two different versions of the paper one day — one that is sold here and another one distributed abroad. “Nowadays, a day rarely passes without me getting an e-mail from a Westerner who comments on something published in the paper,” he said. “I wish Arab News all the best. And I hope it will reflect its experience and beef up its editorial material,” Prince Sultan concluded. |
