RIYADH: Mohammed Al-Yami, procurement manager at BAE Systems in Riyadh, has been awarded the accolade of BAE Systems Procurement Professional of the Year.

He was recently presented the award by Guy Griffiths, managing director of BAE Systems’ International Operating Group. Al-Yami earned the award as a result of his overall performance, which enabled him to become the first Saudi national appointed to a managerial position in the procurement function.

He also gained the best results in the ongoing Mustakbal management development program, which is designed to develop high potential Saudis.

Al-Yami has successfully renegotiated a large number of support contracts to produce improved service standards and cost savings to the company. He has also, in his seven-man team, taken on the responsibility of mentoring to develop the next generation of procurement talent.

“It is always good to have your efforts in the workplace recognized and I was delighted to have been given this global honor,” said Al-Yami. “The development I have received at BAE Systems has helped me to continue to develop my skills and my job enables me to put into practice what I learn,” he added.

Director of PR and Communications for BAE Systems in Saudi Arabia Monther Tayeb added, “Mohammed is just one of the examples of Saudi nationals who are continuing to progress their careers at the company. BAE Systems is a major employer of Saudi nationals in the Kingdom and wants to develop their skills and capabilities to enable them to take on more senior roles in the future.”
