THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More than 75 percent voters exercised their franchise in the keenly fought by-elections to the Kerala Assembly segments of Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Kannur despite sporadic rains Saturday. Polling was peaceful barring minor clashes in isolated places in Kannur and Alappuzha. The higher turnout recorded in all the three constituencies compared to the 2006 figures is expected to favor the Congress party.
