MADINAH, 28 September 2004 — A construction company in Madinah is very close to wiping out the Ranuna Dam, an important historical site near the holy city, Al-Watan reported. Ranuna is located in southwest Madinah. It is one of main seven dams of Madinah. Al-Watan said the dam’s iron protection fence was demolished and clearing work was progressing in the valley in order to develop the area for real estate purposes. Ahmad Abdul Jabbar, a researcher in Madinah, expressed anxiety at what is happening in the valley. He urged Madinah Municipality to step in to protect the historical dam from destruction. |
