JEDDAH: Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal said yesterday that the quality of life in Jeddah would rise dramatically, thanks to current and future development projects in the city. Prince Khaled was speaking to reporters during an inspection visit to the Jeddah municipality yesterday morning as part of his tour of government offices. “I have witnessed a noticeable change in the quality of management and services in the municipality. I wish that other government departments would follow the same system applied by the Jeddah municipality,” he said. Adel Fakieh, Jeddah’s mayor, said the prince was briefed on the municipality’s strategic plans and future development projects worth more than SR15 billion. The projects, he said, include flyovers, underpasses, cleaning services and environmental preservation. He said the municipality also exhibited its 25-year strategic plans that include studying the economic situation and development needs of the city. This is in addition to studying the needs for real estate development, cost-effective housing and partial or complete reorganization of some of the old districts of the city. The mayor gave a presentation about the projects that are currently under way, including road projects, lighting, asphalting, water drainage systems, development of open spaces and the coastal line, forestation near the sewage lake, landfills, cleaning, combating dengue fever and the municipality’s latest managerial and services system. Fakieh said Jeddah’s strategic development plan aims at creating a clear vision and work frame that would make Jeddah a modern city that is capable of providing high quality living standards and a healthy environment. “The city’s bright future will be achieved only with the support of its residents, the private sector and the government partners who together play a great role in taking Jeddah to international levels,” he said. |
