YANBU: Police in Yanbu are investigating a man who made death threats against bank managers after his loan was mistakenly deposited into another man’s account. Muhammad Samarqandi, manager of the Saudi Credit Bank, told police he received an SMS on his mobile phone last Saturday that read, “Give me back my money or I will kill you.” The same message was also sent to Saeed Al-Qahtani, assistant manager of the Arab National Bank. “The matter is being investigated. We’ve written a letter to the man’s employers, the military sector, to bring him in for questioning,” said Col. Sami Al-Ahmadi, acting director of Yanbu police. The man who sent the text message is thought to have applied for a SR30,000 loan from the Saudi Credit Bank branch in Yanbu last November. The loan was approved and accidentally deposited into his colleague’s account with the Arab National Bank. Following investigations, the recipient acknowledged the money was deposited into his account, but said he had spent it. The man then promised to pay it back and asked for time to do so. However, when he failed to do so, the Saudi Credit Bank wrote a letter to the head of the military sector. The man was then made to sign a pledge to return the cash within two weeks but has so far failed to honor it. |
