JEDDAH, 17 December 2007 — Saudi Arabia and Jordan yesterday signed an agreement to demarcate their marine border in the Gulf of Aqaba. The landmark accord was signed at the Conference Palace in Jeddah by Interior Minister Prince Naif and his Jordanian counterpart Eid Al-Fayez. In his address to the signing ceremony, Prince Naif highlighted the deep-rooted relations between Saudi Arabia and Jordan. “Our relations are a model for sincere brotherly ties,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted the prince saying. Prince Naif said increasing terrorist threats facing Middle East countries demand greater coordination and cooperation to eradicate terrorism from the region. He added that the two countries have never had a border dispute. “The marine border agreement, which we signed today, came as a result of cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries,” he said. Al-Fayez arrived here earlier in the day and was received at the airport by Prince Naif and top security officers including Gen. Talal ibn Mohsen Anqawi, Lt. Gen. Murie Al-Shahrani, director general of military survey at the Ministry of Defense and Aviation, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Hosayen, secretary for the border committee at the Council of Ministers, Maj. Gen. Saleh Al-Dawood, director of Prince Naif’s office for studies and research, and Jordanian Consul General Ayed Jameel Al-Dararjah.
