JEDDAH, 25 October 2007 — “Art Alive,” is a unique project, which will give Saudi artists from across the Kingdom a chance to make their impact on the world stage. The project, organized by BMG Foundation, will give international exposure to Saudi artists and benefit charities in the Kingdom as well.

“Every culture expresses itself and its unique identity through its art,” said Basil Al-Ghalayini Chairman of the BMG Foundation at a press conference in Jeddah yesterday. “The paintings will be sold at auctions and while the artists will receive a share of the revenue, the majority of the cash raised will go back directly to help individuals start small businesses,” said Al-Ghalayini.

A panel of art experts from well-known international galleries will select the works that will finally reach the salons of Europe and the wider Middle East and auction houses including Sotheby’s omit in London. Submissions by well established artists who are based in the western, central and eastern regions of Saudi Arabia are expected to reflect regional characteristics.

“Artists in any particular culture are formed by their social environment. Their artistic expression, which results form their culture, is a language that crosses national boundaries and acts as a vehicle for communication between cultures and individuals. We feel that is extremely valuable in promoting mutual understanding in a sometimes-troubled world, “ said Al-Ghalayini.

“We are actively looking for original artworks from this point forward,” said Amr Al-Amawi, Corporate Communications Manager of the BMG Foundation. “It is an exciting project and we are hopeful of a very good response. There is a wealth of talent here and it can only benefit from a wider exposure.”

“Art Alive” exhibitions will initially be staged in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam before moving on to the European circuit early in 2008.
