The Ministry of Commerce and Industry will order the recall of half a million fake "shumagh" (the traditional headdress for men in the Gulf) from the market. People involved in the distribution of these will be referred to investigation.
Ministry sources said ministry officials would visit malls and retail outlets to inspect the merchandises and if these are found fake, the main importer would be arrested.
A detailed report was published Saturday in the local media on the expanding fake shumagh market in the Kingdom. The reports said an estimated 500,000 fake shumagh are circulating in the market.
The sources said the arrest of the main importer is a matter of time.
“The ministry has arrested foreign workers running workshops in residential apartments to falsify international brands in the past,” said a ministry sources.
“They use primitive equipment to seal brands on textiles imported from China,” added the source.
